Meet the directors

To help you to get to know our Directors, we set them seven questions.

Paul's answers:

What’s the 3 biggest changes in estate agency in the last 24 years? The internet, mobile phones and coloured details with floor plans. We estate agents are very protective of our stock of property and if you had asked me 24 years ago that our entire register of properties for sale would be available for everybody to look at, including our competitors, I would have said you were mad! Mobile phones make the job so much easier, if we are out with a client viewing one property and they wish to view another one, we can just call the office and get the appointment arranged, rather than having to drive all the way back to the office, wasting time and effort. In the ‘old days’ details had one black and white photo, sparse details and no floor plans. This then moved on to sticking colour photos on the details so the idea of pushing a button and printing one set of details off with colour images and a colour floor plan would have been positively space age 24 years ago.
If you weren’t an Estate Agent, what would you be? Unemployed probably! I have to say I have no idea.
Which Football team do you support? I have slightly split loyalties. I am a Chelsea fan and have been since the early 70’s but I am an adopted Saints fan and have held a season ticket for the last eight years but have watched them for a lot longer, being our local team. However, if it’s Chelsea against Saints, it has to be Chelsea.
What car were you driving in 1992 compared to now, and what music were you playing then? A red Ford Orion1.6GL that cost £2,100. No central locking, no CD player, AM radio, no electric windows, in fact I think it actually had seats and wheels but that was about it. Blur and Madness and just about everything else as I have always had quite a wide musical taste.
What do you as Paul Jeffreys offer, that others don’t? Honesty and a lot of experience and we are open and available seven days a week.
Give us one Like and one Dislike about your fellow Director? Like – He is the best business partner I could have picked. We are different in the way we do business but have the same philosophy. Dislike - He is far to tidy for my liking and is forever nagging me to tidy my desk.

Jeff’s answers:

What’s the 3 biggest changes in estate agency in the last 24 years? Communication. When Paul and I started our agency there was no internet, no email and no mobile phone. Sales particulars were produced mainly in black and white on Gestetner wind up machines, but shortly after opening mini stick-on colour photographs were introduced. Thirdly, is the amount of legislation and red tape that we now have to adhere to, particularly with regards to lettings.
If you weren’t an Estate Agent, what would you be? I did contemplate going into the police force, but back in the day there was a height restriction, which I didn’t meet.
Which Football team do you support? Southampton through and through. I’ve been a Saints supporter all my life and can remember going to The Dell with my Dad, standing on a box so I could see over the wall behind the Milton Road goal.
Favourite place to eat, and why? I like food, as my waistline shows! My partner, Claire, is a good cook, but for eating out I do enjoy a curry or Italian food and I do try to use the local hostelries wherever possible.
What car were you driving in 1992 compared to now, and what music were you playing then? When I left the corporate agents, who I worked for for over 20 years, having had a company car, my first car was a sand coloured Austin Montego, which we called Monty’s staff car. Today I drive a Ford Kuga Titanium Sport. My tastes in music are wide and varied, but 1960s and 70s music are up there. Two superb concerts that stick in my mind were Tina Turner and Rod Stewart, both at the O2.
What do you as Paul Jeffreys offer, that others don’t? I find it surprising that we are a 24/7 society, but we are the only agent that appears to be open on a Sunday and both Paul and I work alternative Sundays, so we are able to offer a complete estate agency service.
Give us one Like and one Dislike about your fellow Director? Over the 24 years Paul and I have had few disagreements and I think that is because we are both prepared to compromise, having taken the decision at day one that if one said yes and one said no in respect of any decision, we always went with the no. Dislike is probably too strong a word, but Paul’s timekeeping is not the best and his desk is always untidy.
